Choose yarn for shape and texture
Ribbed pumpkins depend on stitch definition. Smooth yarn emphasizes the raised texture, while a softer yarn creates a rustic result. Changing yarn weight can change the finished size, but the hook should still produce fabric firm enough to hold stuffing without obvious gaps.
Stuff in stages and rotate the pumpkin as you work. Even distribution creates a rounder ornament, while carefully pulling the center and shaping the sections produces a flatter decorative pumpkin. Test the stem position before securing it so the top sits neatly when displayed.
